Wayne Rooney talks baldness cure

May 2009

ON me 'ead, son! England star Wayne Rooney is to be treated with a controversial drug to cure his baldness.

The £100,000-a-week Man United striker will take a daily tablet of Finasteride plus scalp lotion to block hormones causing his hair to fall out.

Until this year the drug was BANNED in sport as it could mask steroids. Now it's legal and Rooney, 23 - who shaves his head to avoid the Bobby Charlton look - has already had a consultation.

After years of "slaphead" jibes from team-mates he plans to kick off the £100-a-month treatment as soon as the football season is over.

A pal said: "Wayne's wanted this so long. It won't suddenly give him a head of hair but will stop the rot."

There was just one word of caution from the drug's pioneer. US doctor Robert M. Bernstein said: "One in 500 people can suffer breast enlargement from the treatment."

Now that WOULD spark some ribbing in the dressing room.
