LaserComb Device Stimulates New Hair Growth and
Increases Hair Strength, According to a Report in International Journal of
Cosmetic Surgery and Aesthetic Dermatology
LARCHMONT, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct.
3, 2003--The safe and easy-to-use HairMax LaserComb, a comb-like device that
exposes the scalp to laser light, leads to significant new hair growth and
improves hair strength, according to a paper published in the summer 2003 issue
(Volume 5, Number 2) of International Journal of Cosmetic Surgery and Aesthetic
Dermatology, a peer-reviewed journal published by Mary Ann Liebert, Inc.
In a report entitled, "Hair Regrowth and Increased Hair Tensile Strength
Using the HairMax LaserComb for Low-Level Laser Therapy," John L. Satino and
Michael Markou, D.O., from The Laser Hair and Scalp Clinic (Clearwater, FL)
describe the remarkable results patients achieved with the HairMax LaserComb
after six months of treatment. Patients used the laser comb at home for 5 to 10
minutes every other day. The comb-like teeth of the device separate the hair,
exposing the scalp to the light from nine laser beams. Patients reported no
adverse effects.
Thirty-five patients, 28 men and 7 women with androgenetic alopecia, a common
form of hair loss, used the comb for six months. The investigators counted the
number of hairs in the area of greatest hair loss and also determined the
strength of the hair before and after treatment. Hair count increased 93.5% on
average, with both men and women showing significant improvement. Hair strength
increased 78.9% across all patients.
