NeoGraft hair transplant featured on CBS 3 News with Dr. Paul Glat
The automated hair restoration process is shown in a story covering new technologies for treating hair loss in men and women.

Hair transplants have come a long way in a few years. Plastic
surgeon Dr. Paul Glat of SeaHair in Bala Cynwyd demonstrated the
latest automated hair transplant procedure on T.V. last night, with
a patient in his thirties who experienced hair loss starting at an
early age.
The NeoGraft device eliminates the need to “harvest
hairs” by cutting out a large area of scalp from the back of the
head as is done in the conventional “strip” method, which leaves a
large and unsightly linear scar.
Instead, the NeoGraft process uses a hand piece with small pneumatic
punch device driven by air pressure to remove “follicular units” of
hairs, which are gently withdrawn individually from the scalp and
collected in a small chamber in the device, where they are kept
moist and ready for re-implantation. (Hairs grow naturally in
follicular units, or groupings of one to four hairs.)
The hair units are then implanted by gentle reverse air pressure through the device into tiny slits created in the scalp.
This procedure, known as “follicular unit extraction”, or FUE preserves the naturally occurring groups of one to four hairs in order to achieve a natural look after implantation in bald or thinning areas.
Since hairs are left in the donor areas to grow
without leaving a large scar, hair can be worn as short as desired.
Single hair units are used for implanting in the hairline areas,
while multiple hair units are used to fill in the rest of the areas
designated to receive the transplanted hairs.
"NeoGraft has completely changed the way we perform hair
restoration,” says Dr. Glat. Before the NeoGraft device gained FDA
clearance, the harvesting and implant procedures had to be done by
hand, which meant that far fewer hairs could be transplanted in a
day.
Patients would often have to return for several
sessions, which was more difficult for both the doctor and the
patient. “The natural results and fast recovery make the NeoGraft
procedure attractive to anyone with a busy schedule,” says Dr. Glat.
