An inspirational new reality TV series is helping people cope with hair loss and a Boston area company helped launch the series with a Boston-based makeover.

Needham's PK Walsh, Hair Solution for Women and New England's leading hair replacement salon exclusively for women, provided a hair replacement solution for a 38 year-old Boston woman named Kristal.

Nominated by her sister, Kristal has suffered for years with hair loss, battled numerous health issues including cancer, and lost a lot of the hair on the top of her head.

She was spending 30 minutes each day trying to hide her hair loss. Her story is showcased on Hair Loss Confidential, a new web-based reality show.

This reality TV show concept is based on the premise of a dramatic and compelling intervention directed by a therapist or psychologist who guides the subject and their family through the emotional roller-coaster experienced as a result of the hair loss crisis.

Subjects are nominated by loved ones, friends and co-workers without their knowledge. The Hair Loss Confidential team, along with the nominators, approaches the subject to discuss their hair loss crisis.

The viewer is given insight into the turmoil of both the subject and family, the denial, the shame, the embarrassment... the cover-up.

The individual experiences the hair restoration process and a life-changing transformation is revealed.

"It's a huge change," says Kristal. "I hope my story can inspire others not because of who I am but just so that they can say you know what other women are going through the same thing - I'm not alone!"

After discussing all the hair loss solutions available for her, Kristal went with a perimeter bond, an option she felt comfortable choosing. "I was so impressed with Kristal and she was so brave when the cameras came in," says Nikki Walsh, president of PK Walsh.

"To go from thinking a few hours before that she was going to the movies with her sister, to undergoing a full hair loss makeover that is going to change her life was pretty overwhelming!"

Walsh believes that this transformation will give Kristal a sense of empowerment. "She's not going to remember who she was. She's going to remember who she is," says Walsh.

Hair Loss in women is becoming more common. Approximately 40 million women suffer from some form of hair loss. Walsh says often times it is something women do not like to talk about and are even less likely to seek out the right solutions.

"Approximately 15% of our clients are seeing us due to chemotherapy or radiation, 15% have alopecia areata; and 70% are female pattern baldness/thinning hair.
