Hair Club to Announce Recipients of 2011 Pedro Baez Academic Scholarships

Hair Club®, a nationwide leader in hair loss treatment solutions,
will announce the 2011 winners of the Pedro Baez Scholarship Fund on
Tuesday, April 26th.
This is the 7th consecutive year that Hair Club® has
offered academic scholarships in honor of Pedro Baez, the former
co-owner of the Hair Club® center in Puerto Rico.
“We are pleased to continue providing additional opportunities for
the children of our employees to continue their education with the
help of the Pedro Baez Scholarship Fund,” said Michele Graves, VP of
Human Resources, who administers the scholarship competition.
Pedro Baez was a dedicated member of the Hair Club® family and a
loving husband and father. He attended college on an athletic
scholarship and remained an active participant in several sports,
including soccer, tennis, and volleyball, until his untimely death
at the age of 30 from complications of heart disease.
The Pedro Baez Scholarship Fund was established in
2004 in his honor to support talented young students in their
academic pursuits.
The scholarship is available to children of Hair Club® corporate and
franchise employees. Applicants must be enrolled in or accepted to a
2 or 4 year college or university, technical or vocational school,
have at least a 2.5 GPA and show a commitment to extracurricular
activities and volunteer work. In addition, applicants must submit a
minimum 500-word essay that explains why they are deserving of the
scholarship.
A three-person panel of Hair Club corporate staff members will
select two recipients from the competitive pool of applicants for
the 2011 awards. Each winner will receive a $2,000 academic
scholarship. The winners will be announced on April 26th, 2011.
Hair Club is the largest company in the hair restoration and hair
replacement industry, with more than 95 locations throughout the
United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.
The company was founded in 1976 by Sy Sperling,
known by the trademark phrase “I'm not only the Hair Club President,
I'm also a client.”
